Pediatric Dental Sedation

girl with eyes closedMost dental procedures in children are completed using local anesthesia. However, very young, fearful or uncooperative children also require sedation. Is your child extremely anxious about visiting the dentist? We can utilize sedation to relax your child before performing any dental procedure. Minimal sedation is a safe and effective technique used to relax and reduce anxiety during dental procedures. Children are drowsy but still conscious and responsive to verbal commands. Minimal sedation is recommended for children who experience higher levels of anxiety. In addition, sedation is also recommended for children who are very young or who have special needs and are unable to cooperate for dental treatment.

Our doctor and team have received extensive training and certification in the areas of pediatric sedation and management of emergencies, and our brand new facility is specially designed to accommodate this several types of pediatric sedation dentistry. We offer several alternatives for sedation:

Nitrous Oxide Sedation. We provide Nitrous Oxide or “laughing gas” as an alternative form of sedation to calm and relax children before procedures.

IV Sedation. Intravenous (IV) sedation is a deep sleep that insulates your child from the stress and discomfort associated with dental procedures. It is not the same as general anesthesia used in a hospital. IV Sedation in our office is administered by our on-staff MD Anesthesiologist.
